This issue is particularly severe for PCBs with fine-pitch components, where even minimal moisture can result in electrical failures or reduced lifespan.

One of the key strategies for moisture proof protection is the use of moisture barrier bags (MBBs) with desiccants during storage and transportation. These bags create a sealed environment, and the desiccants absorb any residual moisture, maintaining a low-humidity atmosphere around the PCBA. Additionally, conformal coatings are widely applied to the PCBA surface; these coatings, which can be acrylic, epoxy, or silicone-based, form a thin, protective layer that repels moisture and prevents it from contacting the sensitive electronic components.

Another important aspect of moisture proof protection is the implementation of proper manufacturing and handling procedures. PCBs should be stored in controlled environments with relative humidity maintained between 30% and 50%. After soldering, the PCBA should be cooled gradually to avoid condensation, and any unused PCBs should be resealed in moisture barrier bags promptly. Regular inspections for signs of moisture damage, such as rust or discoloration, are also essential to ensure the long-term reliability of the PCBA.
